Check out this week's speaker, a few NEW pictures from Monday's awesome Family of Rotary event, and a NEW featured item ... a calendar you can use to mark your own calendar for upcoming events (including Dunwoody Diners this Saturday night for those who have signed up with Ken and Sherry Levy to attend)!
Tony Barnhart is back for his annual visit to the Rotary Club of Dunwoody - ready to predict what college football has in store for us in 2021-22. You can join us in person at Le Meridien Atlanta Perimeter, or on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86202979419.
Set to begin his 46th season of covering college football for radio, television and the internet, Tony is in his seventh season as a college football analyst for The SEC Network. He is also a columnist for TMGcollegesports.com.
Before that, Tony was a college football analyst for CBS Sports and a reporter for ESPN’s College Game Day. He spent 25 years at The Atlanta-Journal Constitution as a college football writer.
Tony has authored five books on college football, including the autobiographies of Vince Dooley and Larry Munson. He is a 1976 graduate of the Henry W. Grady School of Journalism at the University of Georgia. In 2016, Tony was inducted into the school’s Grady Fellowship, signifying career achievement and contributions to Journalism.
In 2009 Tony received the Bert McGrane Award (Football Writers Association of America – included in the College Football Hall of Fame), and in 2016 he received the Contribution to Amateur Football Award from the National Football Foundation. In 1999 Tony was named the Georgia Sports Writer of the Year. On May 22, 2021 Tony was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame.
Tony and his wife, Maria, will celebrate their 44th wedding anniversary on Aug. 14. Their daughter (Sara) is a “Double Dawg” with both undergraduate and law school degrees from Georgia. Their son-in-law, Brian, is a proud graduate of Michigan State. Tony and Maria have two grandchildren. Sloane came into the starting lineup of life on Aug. 23, 2012. Their second grandchild, Beau, was born on Aug. 2, 2020.
Just a few more photos from a wonderful day ... Past President Ed and Susan Godshall with their daughter watching the parade - at Bob O'Brien's breakfast party; Jud Shumway (singer extraordinaire) at the hot dog booth, and Ken and Sherry Levy's truck (with Sherry practicing the Queen's wave to the crowd). Mark your calendar now for July 4, 2022 - we want to make the party bigger - with all our members, families and friends!
Here's a way to keep up with all that's happening with the Rotary Club of Dunwoody. If you would like to add an event - or add a story to the bulletin, send an email to Jackie Cuthbert at cuthbert@mindspring.com by Tuesday evening.
