Bremen Food Bank
Rob Goldin introduced us to Mark Stroud, from the Food Bank, who shared with us some interesting statistics regarding Georgians:
- 20% of Georgians (nearly 1 in 5) are food insecure. This means they are not able to provide three square meals a day for everyone in the household. They lack access to adequate food because of a lack of money and other resources.
- 28.8% of children in Georgia (more than 700,000) live in food insecure households.
- 39% of food insecure children live in households that are likely ineligible for any federal food nutrition programs.
- 19.2% of Georgians live in poverty (income of $23,850 or less for a family of four).
- 27.2% of Georgia’s children live in poverty.
