Rotarian Steve Sampler introduced Eric McDonald, Chamber President, to speak to Rotary about the latest developments in the county. He reminded Rotarians that the Chamber has money to lend to employers from their Revolving Loan Fund. There are some requirements, but it could mean an extra $50,000 for each new employee hired. The Chamber is concerned that over 5,000 people drive out of Haralson County every day for employment.
On another note, the Chamber has had problems bringing in new business to the county because of the bickering between the county and city governments. Mr. McDonald indicated it would be difficult to bring in new business when the bickering takes place right in the meeting with prospects. And even if they don’t bicker in front of the prospects, “all the prospect has to do is pick up the paper and read the front page”. In order to bring the right kind of business to Haralson County and keep our young people here, which includes our tax base, the cities and the county need to be able to work together.
